Ogilvie becomes Ice Climbing Youth World Champion

We had seven youth ice climbers out in France today, at the UIAA Ice Climbing World Youth Championships 2024 in Champagny-en-Vanoise. Some excellent performances and a plethora of medals from our young climbers.

LEAD

Kasha Ogilvie showed her dominance in the U18 category, with an impressive execution, qualifying for finals in 1st place. Kasha followed up with a stellar climb, before being crowned the new World Champion

Despite an early fall on Q2, Tabitha O'Carroll qualified in 4th place for the U16 category. In her first ever UIAA competition, Tabitha has taken the pressure and stress of competing on the world stage in her stride and replicated her 4th place in the finals too, just missing out on a podium spot.

In the U20 category, both Nina Henderson and Nessa McShannon put in strong performances coming joint 4th place in the qualifying round.

Up against some fierce competition within this category, they placed 4th and 5th respectively in the final round.

In the male category, Rory Watson repeated his 2023 WYC result, qualifying in 1st place for in the U20 category. Unfortunately he just couldn’t keep hold of the top spot, pipped at the post by Swiss climber, Tim Ziegler.

Clark Noone came 9th in the qualifiers, just missing out of a finals spot.

Robbie Gorn was unfortunately unable to compete beyond the first few holds due to an injury he picked up in Korea at the world cup last week. We wish him the best of luck with his recovery and we hope to see him back at full fitness in the UK round in February.
